FAMILY HERITAGE WRITING CONTEST
At the 2010 Counts Family Reunion, a proposal was discussed and approved to document and encourage writing on the Counts Family heritage and history via an essay/poem contest. It is hoped that this exercise will increase interest from our younger people and energize other individuals to relate and document past family stories, events, traditions, and memories before they are forgotten and lost. Submission can be either in essay or poem format and should highlight the Counts Family pioneer spirit, honesty, and love of God, home country, education, hardwork and family. Essays should be a minimum of 500 words and poems a minimum of one/half typewritten page (8 x 11 inches).
Prizes are planned for three age groups: youth (14 and under), high school (15-19), and adult (20 and up). Winners will be selected by a committee appointed by the current Reunion president and authors should be prepared to present (read) their compositions at the 70th Counts Family meeting scheduled for 07 August 2011 in Lebanon, VA.
Tentative Prizes: Youth, Best composition (essay or Poem) -- $50.00 US Savings Bond
